Sunbrick Burial Ground

"Names of Friends interred in Sunbreak and Swarthmore Burial Grounds"

 

Sunbrick Burial Ground is a Grade II listed building. The earliest interment on this list is 1648 and the latest is 1827.

 

227 Friends were interred there between 1654 and 1767. All the graves are unmarked, as was the Quaker custom. Margaret Fox, widow of Judge Fell and later the wife of George Fox was buried there in 1702.

 

Sunbrick is in Bardsea, on Birkrigg Common, north of High Sunbrick farm. Using OS map OL6, the grid reference is 288739.

 

Swarthmoor Burial Ground is behind the Meeting House in Meeting House Lane, Ulverston, post-code LA12 9ND

 

Both burial grounds are open to the public.
